Rebuilding Maui with the Makai Foundation

Rebuilding Maui with the Makai Foundation

Alex Fielding

August 29, 2023

The deadly wildfires on Maui were devastating to this community, and the island faces a long-term rebuild of its infrastructure, economy, and a culturally significant part of its history. To provide not just immediate relief, but also a plan to restore and revitalize our community, we have joined forces with some of the island's largest employers to form the Makai Foundation.

This 501c3 non-profit backed and run by a cooperative of local companies ranging from construction to tourism, electrical to software, and environment to space has been working on the ground to provide relief and resources for our neighbors and friends. The goal is to help not just triage and continue to do the work we're doing now on resupply, but also to put together a plan from a Maui perspective from those of us who live, work, and have families here so that we can support our employees and their families, as well as our neighbors today and for the future.

We will continue providing immediate relief but ultimately want to work on planning for the cleanup and rebuilding of Maui, together with our community. We'd like to ask all seeking to support the people of Maui to aid Makai's mission by donating, volunteering, or getting in touch at http://makai.org.

Your assistance can help us rebuild Maui better, together.
